We’ve heard a lot from the Obama Administration about the importance of revitalizing American manufacturing, boosting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, and investing in all forms of higher education (including technical schools and community colleges). Siemens PLM Software has launched a new initiative that combines all three.
Siemens has started a new community college best practice program aimed at helping the manufacturing sector. Developed in conjunction with Iowa Western Community College (IWCC), the program will provide resources to interested community colleges and manufacturers, including an associate’s degree curriculum, a guide for obtaining in-kind software grants, and a white paper (Community Colleges Revitalize Manufacturing).
Here’s an opportunity for engineers to get in on a crowdsourcing design project, and try out some new software in the process. Local Motors and Siemens PLM Software have launched a CAD competition to design stylish and distinctive automotive wheels using a free trial of Siemens’ new subscription-based Solid Edge Design1 software.
CAD engineers can download a free 30-day trial of Solid Edge Design1 and create wheels for either the Ferrari 458 Italia or the Audi R8 GT 5.2 FSI Quattro, which will be added to the open source Local Motors community CAD library.
