Simerics has released version 3.4 of its PumpLinx computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation software. PumpLinx is designed for virtual testing of fluid pumps, motors, compressors, valves, and systems with rotating and/or sliding components. It is particularly distinguished by its ability to model liquid systems with aeration and cavitation, according to the company.
Starting with a 3D computer-aided design (CAD) model, PumpLinx enables engineers to create a virtual test article and generate flow visualization and engineering output that is similar in accuracy to a full-scale hardware test. The virtual test can be completed more quickly and cost effectively than a physical test.
New features in PumpLinx v3.4 include improved mesh generation capabilities, additional physical models such as flexible walls, and new templates and template features. The templates and modules enable the rapid set-up and simulation of a range of pumps, motors, and valves. The company introduced the new features in a webinar, and will present a series of webinars specific to particular topics, including:
- PumpLinx for Axial Centrifugal Pumps on June 24;
- PumpLinx for Oil & Gas on July 8; and
- PumpLinx for Compressors on July 22.
