MTS Systems Corp., Sensors Division has redesigned the Temposonics E-Series of linear-position sensors, which offers position measurement designed specifically for cost-sensitive applications. The redesign of the product family and addition of two new models incorporates advances in magnetostrictive technology while maintaining economical pricing. The new models will be available toward the end of 2010.
"We originally designed the E-Series to answer the market’s need for competitively priced linear-position measurement technology in applications where non-contact, continuous feedback is essential," says Matt Hankinson, marketing manager, MTS Sensors. "By further enhancing this proven sensor family, we can now offer advanced sensors with upgraded protection, compact housing styles and reasonable accuracy for cost-sensitive applications."
All E-Series position sensors now provide 0.01 mm resolution and repeatability, as well as 0.03% linearity deviation at a cost-effective price point, according to the comapny. The new E-Series provides backward compatibility with the previous versions of the product family. The sensor achieves minimum IP67 ratings as well as 100g shock and 10g vibration resistance across the product family.
The new E-Series sensors feature Analog (voltage or current) and Start/Stop output. The analog model is now capable of reporting two positions simultaneously when using two position magnets. The E-Series connectivity now features M12 connector cables.
Two new models are introduced with the E-Series product family to increase the range of suitable applications. A stainless-steel model EH provides a compact, rod-style package with either a 7 mm or 10 mm tube. The EL is a low-profile version, ideal for space-critical applications because of its height of 15 mm. The EP profile-style model can operate so that the magnet floats over the sensor’s head. The rod-and-cylinder housed ER version now has improved sealing and can be installed in any orientation.
