Aras Innovator 10 PLM Platform Released

By Anthony J. Lockwood

Aras Corp. (Andover, MA, and Munich, Germany) announced the general availability of version 10 of its Aras Innovator PLM (product lifecycle management) system. This latest open release, says the company, provides a new level of PLM platform scalability for enterprises with global supply chains and introduces an HTML5 browser interface. Aras Innovator 10 also includes high-performance multi-CAD management capabilities and Firefox browser support.

Aras reports that version 10 can scale from 100 users to more than 100,000 users on Microsoft SQL Server 2012. This level of scalability, it explains, provides enterprises with global supply chains and companies of all sizes with a new level of power that enables them to re-platform their PLM environment to support large extended enterprise user counts and rapidly growing data sets.

Aras Innovator 10 is based on fewer lines of code for greater efficiency and performance on standard hardware configurations, the company says. The technology enhancements also enable mobile application development and simplify cloud deployment, the company adds.

Further, Aras Innovator 10 debuts a roles-based HTML5 browser interface with context-sensitive menus. The interface is described as “a modern clean style, with familiar elements similar to current applications such as Microsoft Office 2013.”

Aras reports that the HTML5 web browser user interface provides application functionality for such processes as multi-CAD design management and mechatronics, BOM (bill of materials) management, versioning and revisions, 3D PDF visualization, configuration management, engineering change workflows, quality processes, and project portfolio management.

For version 10, Aras Innovator’s user interface icons have been redesigned to more clearly indicate the command or item type, says the company, adding that all icons are now in SVG (scalable vector graphics) format.   SVG is a 2D vector graphics format that web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Firefox support for interactivity and animation. This new design should make Aras Innovator easier to use for people across a company and the supply chain.

Aras Innovator 10’s new support for the Firefox browser from Mozilla extends to clients running Firefox on Windows or Mac OS workstations. Firefox support, says the company, was the item on its Direct Roadmap that has received the most votes ever. The Direct Roadmap provides the ability to influence the future of the Aras Innovator PLM platform and solutions, says the company.

"The HTML5 browser client together with scalability for over 100,000 users enables true collaboration within companies and across the extended enterprise ]makes] Aras Innovator 10 the best PLM platform for businesses with complex products and complicated processes," said Peter Schroer, president of Aras Corp., in a press statement.
