AMD (Sunnyvale, CA) has announced the availability of the FirePro V4900 graphics card which, it says, provides more than double the performance of competitive offerings in many CAD and DCC (digital content creation) application tests including internal AMD tests as well as SPECviewperf and SPECapc, yet is offered at an entry-level price point. According to AMD, the FirePro V4900 leverages the company’s most advanced graphics technologies, including its AMD Eyefinity technology. AMD Eyefinity technology works with applications that support non-standard aspect ratios, which is required for panning across multiple displays.
In testing based on the AMD performance lab, the company reports that the FirePro V4900 uses a new generation GPU (graphical processing unit) and 1GB of 128-bit GDDR5 RAM driving memory bandwidth of 64 GB/s, allowing rapid data access. Microsoft DirectX11, OpenGL 4.2, and OpenCL support allows users to render and manipulate models using a broad range of tools and applications. The FirePro V4900 supports both dual-link DVI and DisplayPort connectivity and, because of its AMD Eyefinity technology, this graphics board supports three independent displays. Among the additional specifications for this full-height/half-length board are a 2560×1600 maximum resolution at 60Hz, parallel processing architecture featuring 480 stream processors, a 30-bit display pipeline, and AutoDetect technology for optimizing performance for multi-application workflows.
AMD reports that the FirePro V4900 will be available in a range of systems from Dell, Fujitsu, and HP. It has been optimized and certified for such applications as Abaqus/CAE 6.11, ANSYS 13.0, Autodesk 2012 3D design software solutions, Bentley System’s Microstation V8i, BETA CAE Systems ANSA and mETA, CEI’s EnSight and EnSight CFD, Patran and SimXpert 2011, SolidWorks 2011 and 2012, SpaceClaim, Vision Numeric 3DESIGN, and several solutions from Siemens PLM Software.
In addition to its incorporation in workstations, the AMD FirePro V4900 will be available at select online resellers for $189 (MSRP). For more information, visit AMD.
