Geometric Launches CAMWorksXpress

New 2.5D CAM solution runs inside SolidWorks; designed to be easy to use for experienced and new users.

| Published February 8, 2012

Geometric Americas (Scottsdale, AZ), a company of engineering solutions, services, and technologies developer Geometric Ltd., has introduced CAMWorksXpress, a 2.5D machining application. Said to be easy to learn and use for new users as well as experienced programmers and machinists, CAMWorksXpress will be formally introduced to the North America market at SolidWorks World 2012 in San Diego, CA, Feb. 12-15, having been launched at EuroMold 2011 in late November.

CAMWorksXpress runs from a single window within SolidWorks, which, among other efficiencies, is said to enable design changes made in SolidWorks to update toolpaths automatically. Features include feature-based machining, optimized toolpaths, and automatic feature recognition. Users reportedly can generate CNC code with a few clicks.

The software offers such 2.5-axis milling capabilities as roughing, contouring (finishing), thread milling, and single point (drilling, boring, reaming, tapping) cycles. Users can, as an option, have CAMWorksXpress automatically generate an entry drill operation for rough and contour operations.

CAMWorksXpress automatically recognizes features on native parts as well as imported part models. Among the supported design model file formats it can import are IGES, SAT, and ACIS. The software is supplied with a library of post-processors for most leading CNC controllers, and offers unlimited upgrade paths to CAMWorks, the company's full-featured CAM system. CAMWorks, according to the company, was the first Gold Partner CAM solution designed exclusively to operate in SolidWorks.

“CAMWorksXpress is an ideal solution for programmers and machinists who are looking for an easy to learn and easy to use 2.5D machining CAM package that is powerful, yet inexpensive,” said Sunil Palrecha, the director of product marketing and sales for Geometric in a press statement. “Since CAMWorksXpress incorporates feature-based machining and model associativity, it reduces the programming time considerably, giving our customers an edge over their competitors.”

CAMWorksXpress is available in 32- and 64-bit versions for workstations running Microsoft Vista or the Windows 7 operating systems and either SolidWorks 2010 or 2011. It operates with SolidWorks Standard or greater.

CAMWorksXpress is currently priced at $595 and can be purchased and downloaded online. For more information, visit Geometric Americas.
