CATIA V4/V5 Translator Supports SolidWorks 2011

CCE’s CAT5Works enables bi-directional import and export of part and assembly files.

| Published December 10, 2010

CCE (CADCAM-E.Com, Inc.; Farmington Hills, MI) has announced the availability of an updated version of its CAT5Works product that support SolidWorks 2011. CAT5Works, a bi-directional SolidWorks/CATIA data translator that allows file translation from within SolidWorks, is described as a direct CAD interoperability solution that enables seamless design collaboration between CATIA V5/CATIA V4 and SolidWorks. CCE reports that CAT5Works allows SolidWorks users to work directly with CATIA V5 and V4 data using one button translation, the result being data directly usable in the SolidWorks modeling session.

CAT5Works can import CATIA V5 Release 6 to 20 part (.CATPart) and assembly (.CATProduct) files to SolidWorks as well as export SolidWorks files to CATIA V5 part (.CATPart) and assembly (.CATProduct) files. It supports batch translations as well as transfers of CATIA V5 FT&A entities (Flag note, Text, Geometric Tolerance and Roughness) into SolidWorks. CATIA data can be filtered by entities and layers before conversion into SolidWorks, according to the company.. Additionally, CAT5Works can export SolidWorks assemblies based on the Component Configurations. Miscellaneous features include color support, validation of solid bodies, and the ability to translate hidden entities.

“CAT5Works is widely used by the automotive and aerospace supply chain who use SolidWorks for their product design, but need to collaborate with their OEMs who use CATIA,” says Vinay Wagle, CCE’s vice president of Sales and Marketing in a prepared press statement. “CAT5Works does not require a license of CATIA, and has the same ‘look and feel’ as other SolidWorks plug-ins, making it very easy to use.”

In addition to supporting SolidWorks 2011, the latest version of CAT5Works is compatible with the 2009 and 2010 editions of SolidWorks. It runs on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 systems. For more information, go to the CAT5Works web page.
