AccelerEyes (Atlanta, GA) released Jacket, which now runs over SSH (for Linux SSH servers only), as Beta version 0.6, the last in the company’s series of free beta releases.

Jacket is a GPU engine for MATLAB that enables standard MATLAB code to run on the GPU, connecting the user-friendliness of MATLAB directly to the speed and visual computing capability of the GPU. Jacket is not another GPU API, nor is it simply a collection of GPU MEX functions. Rather, it is a complete and transparent system, automatically making memory transfer and execution optimization decisions. Jacket uses a compile on-the-fly system to allow GPU functions to run in MATLAB's interpretive style. Currently, Jacket is built on NVIDIA's CUDA technology.

A few of the features in Jacket include sum/min/max/any/all along any dimension of N-dimensional data; the filter now supports input/output conditions; the fftn, ifftn support 1D,2D,3D (optional padding); it allows subscripting on logical data; the gscatter3 is a Graphics Toolbox version of scatter3; the gpatch is a Graphics Toolbox version of patch; a new Financial Example uses the Black-Scholes formula; and a new Graphics Example uses scatter3 to simulate a vortex.

Some of the changes include better handling of memory pressure and associated error messages.

Jacket v0.6 is set to expire on January 31, 2009, at which point the company plans to move toward its first commercial release, v1.0.

If you are interested in participating in Jacket development or in integrating your software into Jacket releases, please contact the company. Check out feedback on the Jacket forums.
