Palo 2.5 Delivers Fast Access to Excel Data

Commercial open source product allows companies to maintain key spreadsheets.

| Published July 1, 2008

Jedox AG (Freiburg, Germany) released Palo 2.5, the latest version of its application that allows enterprises to centralize key Excel spreadsheet data for use throughout the organization.

Leading the improvements to Palo 2.5 are a newly optimized MOLAP (Multidimensional OnLine Analytical Processing) engine and intelligent local data cache, giving users even faster read and write-back performance; faster multidimensional data processing; an enhanced multidimensional formula editor; and an advanced query capability.

Palo is a multi-user, high-performance data server application that allows workers throughout an enterprise to access, change, and collaborate on multiple spreadsheets in real-time. The free product, also available in professional, enterprise, and government versions, uses a MOLAP (In-Memory OLAP data server) architecture to provide fast data retrieval and system performance.

As a “commercial open source” solution, the company says Palo combines the flexibility and freedom of the GPL open source license with a business-grade software development staff, full technical support, quality control, code maintenance, and more. Jedox also offers additional server applications that extend Palo’s capabilities for Web reporting and data entry, establishment of workflow and process rules, and ETL (Extract/Transform/Load) from heterogeneous data sources.

Other new features in Palo 2.5 include zero suppression, advanced query, drill-through, and Microsoft Office “Ribbon” support. To deliver faster computational performance, Jedox’ Palo 2.5, which is available as a free download for both new and existing users, optimizes execution of multidimensional cube formulas.

For more information about Palo 2.5 as well as Jedox’ Supervision-Server, which establishes rules for workflow, warnings, and compliance; Worksheet-Server, for Excel-to-Web reporting and data entry; and ETL-Server, for Extract/Transform/Load of heterogeneous data, please visit Jedox.
