Autodesk Releases New Upgrades for Building Information Modeling

Revit Architecture 2009, Revit Structure 2009, Revit MEP 2009, AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 and Autodesk NavisWorks 2009 now are shipping, according to Autodesk (San Rafael, CA). These building information modeling (BIM) software solutions provide a way to coordinate reliable information about a project through the design phase, following it through to construction and operations. Using BIM, designers and other building stakeholders can create digital design information and documentation that can be used to accurately analyze performance and cost. The outcome of projects designed and managed by BIM has been that building teams can deliver projects faster and more economically, and can incorporate sustainable design information so that they can reduce the impact that buildings can have on the environment.

The 2009 Autodesk BIM Solutions include:

  • Revit Architecture 2009 For architects and designers, this BIM allows customers to capture early design concepts with improved analysis and visualization capabilities through increased sustainable design and energy analysis capabilities via interfaces with partner applications. Included in the product is the new Mental Ray engine for rendering which has improved visualization functionality, speed, quality, and usability.
  • Revit Structure 2009 A BIM designed for structural engineers, designers and drafters, Structure 2009 includes greater modeling and documentation capabilities. The AutoCAD Revit Structure Suite is enhanced with AutoCAD Structural Detailing.
  • Revit MEP 2009, BIM for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing engineering, has enhanced modeling capabilities, more robust Building Performance Analysis capabilities that support sustainable design, and over twice the previously available content.
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 offers BIM for civil engineering, following projects from surveying and design through to documentation submittal and the delivery of 3D models for GPS machine control during construction. Stormwater hydraulics and hydrology solution for storm sewer design, watershed analysis, detention pond modeling and culvert analysis, survey functionality that allows users to directly import raw data and criteria-based road design that follows local design requirements are all new features in Civil 3D 2009.
  • Autodesk NavisWorks 2009 software solutions (Autodesk NavisWorks Review, Autodesk NavisWorks Manage, Autodesk NavisWorks Simulate, and Autodesk NavisWorks Freedom) enable users to pull together design models and data from documents created on both Autodesk and non-Autodesk software applications; improve project collaboration and coordination and analyze for clash detection.
