36-in. large-format printer contains onboard 80GB HD, prints large technical documents.

Canon U.S.A., Inc. (Boston, MA) announced a large-format, 36-in. printer suited for multiuser, networked workgroups. The imagePROGRAF iPF720 is designed for printing MCAD, GIS, and AEC documents, and can be used anywhere large technical printing is needed.

The imagePROGRAF iPF720 printer, positioned as the flagship model in the company's five-color large-format printer family, targets the technical document market, and incorporates a built-in 80GB hard drive suited for medium to large workgroup users who need to print large files or sets of files from multiple workstations.

The iPF720 printer not only accommodates multiple users who are accustomed to using hard-disk equipped workgroup printers, but will print an A0-sized full-density color plot (33.1 x 46.8 inches) at 1200dpi in 55 seconds. It will do that with a 0.02mm minimum line width at ±0.1 percent line accuracy on a printing area with 3mm margins from roll-feed paper.

The iPF720 printer, with a footprint of less than 60 in. wide, supports HP-GL/2 and HP-RTL page description languages to ensure compatibility with any technical document applications. The printer comes with the AutoCAD imagePROGRAF HDI Driver (Windows only) and imagePROGRAF Printer Driver compatible with both Windows and Macintosh. The printer driver includes such features as Free Layout.

The imagePROGRAF iPF720 printer has a manufacturer-suggested selling price of $5,395.
