Metris buys Garda, Tomelleri technology

Acquisitions bolster robot arm project.

| Published July 31, 2007

Brussels-based Metris will purchase all of the stock in Garda, a manufacturer of portable articulated-arm 3D measurement devices. Metris will pay no more than 2.1 million euros in cash. Garda generated 1.3 million euros in revenue in 2006.

Metris has also signed asset purchase agreements with Tomelleri S.r.l. for intellectual property. Tomelleri builds high-accuracy articulated arms for pipe measurement systems. It also offers engineering solutions for drilling and milling machinery and telescopes for astronomical applications.

Both acquisitions are designed to further Metris' Robot CMM arm project, in which a Metris scanner will be integrated on a robotized articulated arm. Metris is a manufacturer of bridge and horizontal-arm CMMs (coordinate measuring machines.)

“With the acquisition of Garda, we further complete our total solution with portable measurements,” comments Bart Van Coppenolle, President and CEO of Metris. “We can now offer our customers a one-stop-shop portable scanning solution consisting of an articulated arm, scanner and software.”
