Design Wire Harnesses in Solid Edge

New UGS add-on integrates SE with electrical circuit design systems.

| Published April 1, 2006

UGS Corp. (Plano, TX) this morning announced Solid Edge Wire HarnessDesign, a new add-on application that integrates Solid Edge and popular electrical circuit design systems suchCim-Team and Vesys Electrical Series from Mentor Graphics. UGSdescribes Solid Edge Wire Harness Design as a dedicated process-drivenenvironment for the creating, routing, and organizing wires, cables, and bundles in a Solid Edge assembly.

Solid Edge Wire Harness Design is said to allow electrical and mechanical designteams to collaborate on designs to create complete and accurate digitalmockups that include essential manufacturing information. With it, youcan model wiring, tubing, and the complete assembly by leveraging a harness wizard as well editing tools, all of which combinesto reduce the need for costly physical prototype, says UGS.

Solid Edge Wire Harness Design automatically generates and routes wiresand cables through the Harness Wizard, and its built-in design errorcheckers provide persistent live feedback and warnings of designviolations. Its smart path technology routes wires around a design and  threads them through clips and othercomponents. Additionally, the application automatically placeselectrical components and connection information and can add mechanicalcomponents using a predefined grid.

Solid Edge Wire Harness Design leverages patented BlueDots for pathconnectivity and dynamic edit for real-time graphical feedback.(BlueDots, a key component of the company's Rapid Blue technology tospeed design work, creates a peer-to-peer connection between twoindependent sketches. This relationship enables edits to one sketch tomake the appropriate edit to the other. A Bluecoat is the "glue" thatconnects the previously disconnected sketches.)
