IMSL C Numerical Library Version 6.0 Includes Linear Optimization Technology

Visual Numerics updates the data analysis package with new analysisand advanced forecasting package, including neural networks.

| Published February 1, 2006

Visual Numerics, Inc.(San Ramon, CA) released a new version of its flagship data analysisIMSL C Numerical Library. Version 6.0 now includes advancedforecasting techniques as well as breakthrough optimization technology. With neural network and Auto_ARIMA capabilities, and one of the fastestdense linear programming algorithms in a general-purpose library, thenew version helps companies in inventory management and financialservices cost-effectively develop applications for portfoliooptimization, risk modeling, and trading systems.

The IMSL C Numerical Library provides advanced mathematical andstatistical functionality for programmers to embed in applications thatare written in C/C++. The thread safe functions are based on the samealgorithms contained in the IMSL Fortran Library.

One of the key new features of IMSL C Numerical Library 6.0 is aneural network engine that mimics human problem-solving processes byapplying knowledge gained from historical data to new problems. Thisfine-tunes forecasting accuracy over time. The neural networktechnology also features advanced data pre-processing to simplify datamining preparation and ensure optimal accuracy and performance, savingsignificant time over manual pre-processing.

Another highlight of the new version is its dense linear programmingoptimizer. According to VNI, in 2005 tests, IMSL solved 46 exampleproblems in one-eighth the time of a leading linear programmingoptimizer product. Version 6 also includes MPS format readers tofacilitate usage with existing users of linear programming and will bewelcomed by capital markets customers doing portfolio optimization, trading systems, and risk modeling

Other new features include Auto_ARIMA for advanced forecasting routinefor time series analysis, a differential equations package forfinancial engineering and scientific computing, a new random numbergenerator technique using the Mersenne Twister algorithm, and newLAPACK (linear algebra package) functionality.

"By adding fully-tested linear programming optimization, neural networkcapabilities and Auto_ARIMA, we're able to make our IMSL C Library amuch more powerful and cost-effective option for companies who needstate-of-the-art forecasting applications," said Phil Fraher, presidentand CEO of Visual Numerics.

The IMSL C Numerical Library 6.0 is available immediately. Price: $1,495 (per seat, to start).
